It is during the winter however that Pamporovo truly comes alive. Known as the gem of the Rhodopiās, the mild weather and good snow cover make skiing conditions near perfect from mid December to mid April.
Pamporovo is one of the best ski schools in Europe. The Olympic biathlon champion Ekaterina Davofska was born in Chepelare, just 5 min drive from Pamporovo, and still does most of her training in Pamporovo.
22, 000 m of excellent ski tracks with varying difficulty and the first class system of lifts and drags make Pamporovo a desired ski destination for many international tourists.
All ski runs are safeguarded and maintained in good condition. More than 100 hundred highly qualified ski and snowboard instructors fluent in different languages are here to teach both beginner and intermediate ski and snowboarders.
The ski runs in Pamporovo come in all hardship levels. Located between 1926 and 1450 m above sea level on the northern, eastern and western slopes of the Snezanka peak. The most difficult piste is the infamous 'wall', training ground of the Bulgarian national ski team. Great off piste skiing and snowboarding can be found in Pamporovo.
